Design for Freedom

At the 2024 Design for Freedom Summit hosted by Grace Farms, Leonardo Bonanni, CEO and founder of Sourcemap, played a central role in discussing how technology can dismantle the opaque supply chains that hide forced labor in the building industry.

Bonanni participated in two key sessions that highlighted the shift from "voluntary" sustainability to mandatory corporate accountability:

  • Panel: "Realizing the Just Transition": Alongside leaders from Shaw Industries and WXY architecture + urban design, Bonanni explored the intersection of human rights and environmental goals. He emphasized that a truly "just transition" to a green economy is impossible without full visibility into where and how raw materials are sourced.

  • Breakout: "Supply Chain Mapping Technology": In this technical deep dive, Bonanni demonstrated how Sourcemap’s platform provides the "interoperability" needed for architects and contractors to verify their materials in real-time. He argued that mapping complex global logistics is no longer a technical impossibility but a necessary standard for any firm wishing to operate ethically in the U.S. and European markets.

His participation underscored a major theme of the 2024 Summit: that the tools to end modern slavery in construction already exist, and the responsibility now lies with industry leaders to implement them.
