Powering the transition to Supply Chain Transparency

Leonardo Bonanni is the founder and CEO of Sourcemap, a technology company dedicated to powering the industrial transformation towards transparent supply chains. He developed Sourcemap as a research project during his PhD studies at the MIT Media Lab in 2007-2011 and founded the company Sourcemap Inc. one month after the Tohoku Tsunami, when called upon to help brands deal with the global supply consequences of the natural disaster. Later in 2013 Sourcemap moved to Lower Manhattan after being contracted to work on supply chain mapping post-Superstorm Sandy recovery by the Bloomberg administration.

Sourcemap is the first software designed to help brands quickly and accurately identify all of the suppliers in their extended supply chain, down to the raw material origins. It works like a LinkedIn for the supply chain. Brands invite their suppliers, who in turn invite their suppliers, until every stakeholder is registered. Through this cascading process of upstream supplier discovery, also known as supply chain mapping, each company discovers an average more than 10,000 new suppliers. Supply chain mapping unlocks tremendous opportunities by allowing companies to communicate with suppliers all over the world, identify risks, ensure compliance, and raise standards at every step of the supply chain. Today Sourcemap counts some of the most valuable brands in food, apparel, pharmaceuticals, electronics and automobiles among its customers. Industry is only beginning to realize the potential for supply chain mapping to raise standards, reduce risks, and unlock immense opportunities to run supply chains more efficiently and with unparalleled resilience.
